PFH wants to begin drilling DSF fields by 2018

By the second half of 2018 the Kolkata-based oil and gas startup wants

to begin drilling at two of three fields won in the DSF round which

closed on February 15: KG/ONDSF/Achanta/2016 or Achanta, and

KG/ONDSF/Bhimanapalli-Uppidi/2016 or Bhimanapalli, both in Andhra

Pradesh. Promoted by 29-year old UK and US-returned entrepreneur Harsh

Poddar, PFH applied to the environment ministry for Bhimanapalli

clearance on October 3 and for Achanta clearance on September 25.

"Drilling will begin as soon as we receive the clearance," reports a

company source. "Usually this takes seven to eight months." At the

15.01-sq km Bhimanapalli field, PFH plans to workover two wells drilled

and abandoned by ONGC: Bhimanapalli-1 and Uppidi-1.

Also planned are five possible exploration wells. "Exact locations will

be finalised after interpreting well results, seismic and the success of

wells as they are drilled," reads a pre-feasibility report.

At the 9.63-sq km Achanta field, PFH plans to workover two earlier

wells, also drilled and abandoned by ONGC: Achanta-1 and CMAA(A). Also

planned are up to five possible exploration wells.

"At present we are preparing the FDP and interpreting old well and

reservoir data," adds our source. "Once we get FDP approval from the DGH

we'll issue tenders for rigs and services."

PFH plans to spend Rs10cr ($1.5m) on each well and also plans to

lay new pipelines to connect the wells to the nearest ONGC gas gathering

stations for processing. Achanta [1]_is located 6-km

from the Kavitham EPS while Bhimanapalli is 15-km from the Gopavaram gas

gathering station. Well Bhimanapalli-1 was drilled in 1984 flowing

27,300 cm/d from Paleocene sands; Uppidi-1 was drilled in 2007 and

flowed 99,840 cm/d along with 14.4 cm/d oil (90 b/d) during initial

testing. Bhimanapalli-1 was drilled to explore the Eocene carbonate

build up, and also Paleocene sediments in the Bhimanapalli structure in

the east Godavari sub-basin; Uppidi-1 was drilled to explore Vadaparru

shale. Limestone zones were encountered at both wells and the potential

hydrocarbon zone is believed to be below 2000 metres. According to

government estimates, Bhimanapalli-1 holds 771m cubic feet and Uppidi-1

holds 622m cubic feet. Achanta-1 on the other hand was drilled in 1993

to explore the Upper Cretaceous formation, Palaeocene and Palakollu

sands. During initial testing the well flowed 62,385 cm/d gas and 1.3

cm/d (8 b/d) condensate from Palakollu sands. Achanta-1 is estimated to

hold 1.062bn cubic feet of reserves.
